Neurodiversity Affirming Approach
We take a neuro-affirming approach to therapy, working with children with autism, ADHD, sensory processing challenges, and other developmental differences that affect the nervous system. Our goal is to celebrate and support each child's unique way of experiencing and interacting with the world. We collaborate with families to create customized, strengths-based therapy plans that promote motor skills, and help with sensory regulation, ensuring every child reaches their full potential in a supportive and inclusive environment.
In practice, a neuroaffirming approach in physical therapy might look like:
-
Rather than a one-size-fits-all model, an individualized treatment plan is key. This would involve assessing the person’s unique needs, challenges, and strengths.

-
Recognizing that people experience movement, sensation, and processing differently.

-
Child led! Adapting therapy to meet the individual’s needs and preferences, not expecting them to "fit" into a standard model of care.

-
Involving the individual (and their caregivers) in setting goals and making decisions about how therapy should be done.

-
Offering emotional and sensory support, helping the person feel safe, understood, and capable throughout the process.
This type of practice allows kiddos across all neurodevelopment stages and levels achieve the gross motor skills needed to navigate their environment independently and keep up with their peers!
